About Us:

The Institute for Journalism, a project institute at WASEDA University in Tokyo, is working for the purpose of journalism innovation and improvement. The members of our Institute consist of not only distinguished journalists, TV producers and editors but also data scientist, engineer, and web designer.

Our Institute provides now four programs:
(1) Waseda Investigative Journalism Project(WIJP)is now under construction as the first university-institute-based media for investigative journalism in Japan. WIJP will publish original in-depth stories focusing on a variety of important issues based on the spirit of investigative journalism. We have distinguished journalists and ambitious students with great interests and understanding in journalism.

(2) We provide the Journalism Cafe for young journalists around Japan, assisted by our journalist members and under the mentorship of award-winning veteran journalists.

(3) We provide the Documentary Cafe for general students and interested citizens, functioning as a bridge between documentary makers and public audience.

(4) We provide the Journalism-Teaching Course for undergraduate students of all departments, who are expected to work as investigative journalist, video-journalist or documentary maker in the future, reporting stories independently from the Kisha-Club-System in Japan.
